SCROLLS

--- SCROLLS / STAVES / WANDS (SKILLS) ---

These skills enable characters to use various magical items. Attempting to
use such items without the appropriate skill will not only result in failure,
but also the potential destruction of the item itself.

The SCROLLS skill is used for reading certain magical scrolls, books, and
tomes of knowledge, which can be activated with the RECITE command. The
SCRIBE skill can be used to create customized scrolls. (See HELP SCRIBE for
more information.)

The STAVES command is used for magical staves and similar devices. Such items
can be activated with the BRANDISH command. (This is not the appropriate
skill for using a staff as a weapon. That is the STAFF skill.)

The WANDS skill is similar to the STAVES skill, but it is a separate skill
because the smaller physical size of most magical wands usually results in
weaker but more focused types of magic. Wands can be activated with the ZAP
command.

Syntax: RECITE <scroll> [target]
BRANDISH <staff> [target]
ZAP <wand> [target]
