--- MUSIC (SKILL) ---
This skill represents a character's knowledge of the basic principles of
music, including harmony, tonality, and structure. With a sufficiently high
rating in this skill, a character can also use the PLAY command to perform
with various musical instruments, each of which is represented by its own
skill. The instrumental skills are PERCUSSION (drums), STRINGS (violin, cello,
etc.), FLUTE (flutes and recorders), BRASS (trumpet, trombone, tuba, etc.),
PIANO, ORGAN, and SOUND CRYSTAL (an alien musical instrument). Depending on
the type of instrument, you will either have to have the instrument in your
possession or be standing in the same room as the instrument in order to PLAY
it. Once you have an instrument, you can enter PLAY <instrument> to see a
list of musical styles that you can play with that instrument. Your success
with the instrument will depend on both your MUSIC skill and your skill in
that particular type of instrument. Playing a musical instrument inflicts a
minor cost of movement points, and you can stop playing at any time by using
the STAND command.
The MUSIC skill also enables you to learn the SINGING skill, which allows you
to SING various styles of music, such as Blues, Jazz, Gospel, Chorus, and
Chant. Using the SING command inflicts a minor cost of movement points, and
you can stop at any time by using the STAND command.
The PLAY command can also be used to activate a jukebox. PLAY LIST will
display a list of available songs on the jukebox, and PLAY <song> will choose
which song to play. The lyrics of the song are then broadcast across the
